Whether you’re creating a blog post, social media graphic, or even just a simple text-based email, typography is an important tool to help you make your point. And while there are a lot of great fonts out there to choose from, not all of them will work well in Canva.
That’s why we’ve put together this guide on how to use typography in Canva, so you can create beautiful, easy-to-read designs that get your message across loud and clear.

1. Choose Simple Fonts
When it comes to choosing fonts for your Canva designs, simpler is almost always better. That’s because complex or ornate fonts can be difficult to read, especially at smaller sizes.
So if you want people to actually read the text in your design, stick to simple sans serif or serif fonts that are easy on the eyes. Some of our favorite fonts for Canva designs include Montserrat, Open Sans, Merriweather, and PT Serif.
2. Use Contrasting Colors
In addition to choosing the right fonts, it’s also important to use colors that contrast well with each other. For example, black text on a white background is much easier to read than white text on a black background.
Similarly, dark blue text on a light yellow background will be much easier to read than light blue text on a dark yellow background. So when choosing colors for your text, be sure to use colors that provide enough contrast for easy readability.
3. Keep It Short and Sweet
When it comes to the actual content of your design, less is almost always more. That means using short phrases and sentences rather than long paragraphs of text. It also means breaking up your text into smaller sections with headlines and subheadlines so people can easily scan and find the information they’re looking for. After all, no one wants to spend their time reading huge blocks of text—especially when they’re just trying to quickly find one piece of information.
So if you want people to actually read the content in your design, keep it short and sweet.
4. Give Your Eyes a Break
Just like our bodies need breaks after sitting in front of a computer all day, our eyes need breaks too—especially when they’re staring at screens full of text. That’s why it’s important to give your eyes a break every now and then by adding some whitespace around your text.
This not only makes your design more visually appealing but also gives your eyes a chance to rest between sections of text. So if you want people to actually read the content in your design, be sure to give their eyes a break every now and then.
By following these simple tips on how to use typography in Canva, you can create beautiful designs that are easy on the eyes and actually get read by the people who see them.
