What happens if Azure AD goes down?

Azure AD is a cloud-based identity management service that provides users with a single sign-on experience for their organizational applications. Azure AD allows users to access their organizational applications and resources from any device or browser.

If Azure AD goes down, users will not be able to sign in to their accounts or access their resources.

PRO TIP: If Azure AD goes down, your organization will lose access to all the resources that are federated with Azure AD. This includes access to Office 365, Intune, and any other third-party applications that are federated with Azure AD.

If Azure AD is unavailable, users will be able to sign in using their credentials from other organizations that Azure AD has partnered with. To sign in to an account that is not registered with Azure AD, users will need to create a new account and sign in.

If a user’s credentials are not recognized by an organization that they are signed in to, they will not be able to access their resources.
