What Is DNS on Wix?

Last updated on September 30, 2022 @ 11:04 am

DNS stands for Domain Name System. It is a system that converts human-readable website names (such as www.example.com) into computer-readable IP addresses (such as 192.0.2.1).

When you enter a website name into your browser, your computer contacts a DNS server and asks it for the IP address of the website you want to visit. The DNS server then looks up the IP address and returns it to your computer so that your browser can connect to the website.

PRO TIP: If you are not familiar with DNS, do not attempt to change your DNS settings on Wix. Incorrect DNS settings can result in website downtime or even loss of data.

Wix uses DNS to map websites to their corresponding IP addresses. When you create a Wix site, we automatically generate a unique DNS record for your site. This record points to your Wix site’s IP address, which is where your site is hosted.
