How Do I Get Started with the Shopify API?

To do this, go to yourShopify account > Apps > Manage private apps. From here, you will be able to create a new private app. Once you have created your app, you will be given an API key and secret key.

PRO TIP: The Shopify API is a private API that can only be accessed by Shopify Partners and Developers. If you are not a Shopify Partner or Developer, you will not be able to access the API.

To get started with Shopify’s api key, first sign up for a Shopify account. After creating an account, go to Manage private apps under Apps in order to generate both an api key and secret key unique to your store which is found in Admin under Settings.
