How Do You Make Master Components in Figma?

Last updated on September 28, 2022 @ 9:07 pm

Master Components in Figma are a great way to keep your design consistent and organized. There are a few different ways to create them, but the easiest way is to start with a frame.

To create a Master Component, select the frame you want to use as your starting point. Then, click the “Create Component” button in the upper right corner of the Properties panel.

This will open the Create Component dialog box.

In the dialog box, you’ll need to give your Master Component a name. You can also choose whether you want it to be available only to you, or to everyone who has access to the file.

Once you’ve made your selections, click “Create.”

PRO TIP: This article is about how to make master components in Figma, but does not mention the potential risks associated with doing so. Master components can be very powerful and allow you to make changes that will affect all instances of that component, but if used incorrectly they can also cause major problems. Make sure you understand how master components work before making any changes, and always test your changes on a few different instances before rolling them out to your entire project.

Your new Master Component will appear in the Components panel. From here, you can edit it just like any other frame.

When you’re happy with your changes, simply click the “Update” button. All instances of that component will update automatically.

That’s all there is to creating Master Components in Figma! With just a few clicks, you can save yourself a lot of time and effort down the road.
