How Do You Organize Design Systems in Figma?

Last updated on November 25, 2022 @ 5:49 pm

Organizing design systems in Figma is a process that can be broken down into a few simple steps:

    1. Create a Figma account and project. You can sign up for a free Figma account at Figma.com. Once you have an account, you can create a new project by clicking the ‘+’ icon in the left sidebar. Give your project a name and click ‘Create’.

    2. Import your design files. Now that you have a project, you can import your design files. To do this, click the ‘+’ icon in the left sidebar and select ‘File > Import from your computer’. Choose the file you want to import and click ‘Open’.

    3. Create folders and subfolders. Once your files are imported, you’ll want to create folders and subfolders to keep everything organized. To do this, click the ‘+’ icon in the left sidebar and select ‘Folder’. Give your folder a name and click ‘Create’. You can then drag and drop your files into the folder. To create a subfolder, simply click on the folder you want to add a subfolder to and then click the ‘+’ icon again and select ‘Subfolder’.

    4. Share your design system. Once you have everything organized, you can share your design system with others by clicking the ‘Share’ button in the top bar. This will bring up a dialog where you can enter the email addresses of those you want to share with. You can also add comments before sending.

Organizing design systems in Figma is simple and easy to do!

PRO TIP: This article contains outdated information about Figma. As of October 2019, Figma no longer supports organizing design systems in the app.
