How Do I Import Customers Into Shopify?

Assuming you have a customer list in a CSV file, here are the steps to import them into Shopify:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Customers.
  2. Click Import. If you don’t see this button, then you don’t have permission to import customers. Ask your Shopify admin to give you permission.
  3. On the Import customers by CSV page, click Choose File, and then find and select the CSV file that you want to import.
  4. Note: If your CSV file has been created in Microsoft Excel, then make sure that you save it as a Windows Comma Separated (.csv) file. Files saved as .xls or .xlsx files can’t be imported into Shopify.

  5. Click Upload file. Depending on the size of your customer list, this step might take a few minutes.
  6. Note: If any of the email addresses in your CSV file are already being used by other customers in your shop, then those customers won’t be imported. Instead, their information will be updated with the information from your CSV file.

PRO TIP: If you are considering importing customers into Shopify, be aware that this process can be complicated and time-consuming. There is no guarantee that all of your customers will be successfully imported, and you may lose data in the process. Proceed with caution and backup your data before beginning.
