When you’re ready to start work on a project, the first step is to submit a proposal. The client will then review your proposal and decide whether or not to award the project to you.

Once the client awards the project to you, the next step is to sign a contract. After the contract is signed, the client will then create a milestone for the project.

PRO TIP: If you see the “Payment Verified” badge on a freelancer’s profile, it means that the freelancer has provided Upwork with proof of payment from at least one client. This badge is a strong indication that the freelancer is reliable and trustworthy.

A milestone is essentially a task that needs to be completed in order for the project to be considered complete. For example, if you’re hired to write an article, the milestone may be for you to submit the article by a certain date.

Once you complete the milestone, the client will review your work and either approve or request revisions. Once the client approves your work, they will release the milestone payment to you.

So, what does “payment verified” mean on UpWork? Payment verified means that the client has reviewed your work and released the milestone payment to you. In other words, it means that you’ve completed the task and have been paid for it.
