How Do You Make a Component Library in Figma?

Last updated on September 28, 2022 @ 10:47 pm

Component libraries are a great way to organize your design system and keep track of all the various elements that make up your product. But how do you actually create one in Figma?

There are a few different ways to go about it, but the most straightforward method is to use Figma’s built-in “components” feature. Here’s a step-by-step guide:

1. First, create a new file in Figma (or open an existing one).

2. Then, select the “Components” tab from the left sidebar.

3. Next, click on the “+” icon to create a new component. You can also duplicate an existing component by right-clicking on it and selecting “Duplicate”.

4. Once you’ve created a new component, you can start adding elements to it. To do so, simply click and drag any object from the canvas onto the component in the components panel.

5. Once you’ve added all the elements you want to include in the component, you can give it a name by clicking on the “Rename” button in the top-right corner of the panel.

And that’s it! You’ve now created your first component library in Figma.

PRO TIP: This article contains outdated information about Figma’s component library feature. The feature has since been removed from Figma.
