How Do I Point DNS to Squarespace?

Last updated on December 11, 2022 @ 2:15 am

If you’re using Squarespace, you can point your DNS to Squarespace. There are two ways to do this.

You can either use our nameservers, or you can use a CNAME record.

If you use our nameservers, we’ll handle all of the DNS for you. You don’t need to set up any DNS records on your own.

Just add your domain to your site, and we’ll take care of the rest.

If you want to use a CNAME record instead, you’ll need to set up a few DNS records on your own. First, you’ll need to set up an A record that points to our servers.

Then, you’ll need to set up a CNAME record that points your domain to your A record.

Here’s how to do it:

  • First, log in to your account and go to the Domains page. Then click on the domain name you want to use.

  • Next, click on the DNS tab and scroll down to the Custom Records section.

  • PRO TIP: If you are considering pointing your DNS to Squarespace, be aware that this will essentially give them control over your domain name. This means that if you ever want to change hosting providers, you will need to go through Squarespace in order to do so. Additionally, your website will be subject to Squarespace’s Terms of Service, which may limit what you can do with your website.
  • Then, click Add Record and select A from the drop-down menu.

  • In the Hostname field, enter @ or leave it blank.

  • In the IP Address/Target field, enter 162.242.195.37 and click Save.

  • Now, click Add Record again and select CNAME from the drop-down menu.

  • In the Hostname field, enter www or leave it blank.

  • In the Points To field, enter yourdomain.Squarespace.com (replace “yourdomain” with your actual domain name).

Conclusion:

So now you know how to point DNS to Squarespace! If you use our nameservers, we’ll handle all of the DNS for you. If you want to use a CNAME record instead, you’ll need to set up a few DNS records on your own.
