Can I Transfer My Wix Website to GoDaddy?

Last updated on January 8, 2023 @ 1:14 pm

Wix is a popular website builder that allows users to create a website without any coding knowledge. However, Wix does not offer hosting services, which means users have to find a separate hosting provider to host their Wix website.

GoDaddy is one of the most popular web hosting providers and offers a variety of hosting plans to choose from. So, if you’re wondering if you can transfer your Wix website to GoDaddy, the answer is yes!

GREAT NEWS:

Exciting update! We've collaborated with Wix to offer WBI users with a free plan for all website creation needs - Explore the details here.

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to transfer your Wix website to GoDaddy:

1. Export your Wix site: To export your Wix site, go to My Sites and click on Manage Site. Under Site Actions, click on Export Site. This will download an HTML file of your entire website.

2. Create a new account with GoDaddy: If you don’t have a GoDaddy account yet, you’ll need to create one. You can do this by going to the GoDaddy website and clicking on Products. Select “Web Hosting” and choose the “Shared Hosting” plan that best suits your needs. Once you’ve selected a plan, click on “Add to Cart. ”

3. Checkout: Enter your billing information and click on “Submit Order. ”

4. Set up your hosting account:

  • “Nameservers”:

After your purchase is complete, you’ll receive an email from GoDaddy with your login information. Use this login information to access your account and click on the “Nameservers” tab. Here, you’ll need to update the nameservers for your domain to point to GoDaddy’s servers. You can find these nameservers under the “Shared Hosting” section of your account.

  •  “DNS Zone File”:

The DNS Zone File is where you’ll add the records for your website. To do this, log in to your GoDaddy account and click on “My Products.” Under “Web Hosting,” select the domain name you want to edit and click on “Manage Zone File.”

Here, you’ll need to add four A records:@ 3600 IN A 192.185.0.143@ 3600 IN A 192.142www 1800 IN CNAME @ftp 1800 IN CNAME @ Once you’ve added these records, click on “Save Zone File” at the bottom of the page.

5. Upload your site files: Now that everything is set up on the GoDaddy side, you can upload your site files. To do this, log in to your account and go to “My Products.” Under “Web Hosting,” select the domain name you want to use for your website and click on “Launch cPanel.” cPanel is where you’ll manage all aspects of your hosting account, including uploading files.

In cPanel, go to the “Files” section and click on “File Manager.” Select the “Web Root (public_html/www)” option and click on “Go.” This will take you to the root directory for your website. From here, you can upload your exported Wix site files.

To upload files, simply click on the “Upload” icon (the up arrow) at the top of the page and select the files you want to upload from your computer.

Once the files are uploaded, go back to cPanel and click on “Domains.” Under “Aliases,” add www.[yourdomain]. This will ensure that visitors can access your site using both www.com and just [yourdomain] .com.

[YourDomain] .com has now been transferred from Wix to GoDaddy! If you followed all of these steps correctly, then visitors should be ableto access www.[YourDomain] .com as well as just [YourDomain].

PRO TIP: If you are considering transferring your Wix website to GoDaddy, be aware that there is a risk that your site may not work properly after the transfer. Additionally, your Wix account will be cancelled and you will no longer have access to it.
