How Does UpWork Payment Protection for Fixed-Price Jobs Work?

Last updated on September 29, 2022 @ 10:51 pm

UpWork is a great platform for freelancers to find work and get paid. But what happens if a client doesn’t pay?

UpWork has a payment protection system in place for fixed-price jobs that can help protect you in these situations.

Here’s how it works:

First, you’ll need to submit a request to UpWork’s support team within 14 days of the job being completed. They will then review the case and decide if payment protection is appropriate. If it is, UpWork will release the funds to you within 5 business days.

PRO TIP: Upwork Payment Protection for Fixed-Price Jobs is designed to protect freelancers in the event that a client does not pay for work that has been completed. However, there are some risks associated with using this feature, and freelancers should be aware of them before using it.

First, if a client disputes the work that was done, Upwork will investigate the case and may decide in favor of the client. This means that the freelancer may not be paid for the work that was done. Second, if a client files for bankruptcy, the freelancer may not be paid for work that was completed before the bankruptcy filing. Finally, if Upwork itself goes bankrupt, the freelancer may not be paid for work that was completed.

There are some requirements for payment protection to be available, though. The job must be fixed-price, and you must have submitted an invoice through UpWork. You also can’t have been paid outside of UpWork (for example, through PayPal).

If you’re not sure if your job qualifies for payment protection, you can always reach out to UpWork’s support team for more information.

In short, if you complete a fixed-price job on UpWork and don’t receive payment from the client, you can submit a request to UpWork’s support team. They will review the case and, if eligible, release the funds to you within 5 business days. There are some requirements for eligibility, though, so be sure to check with UpWork support before starting work on a job.
