Can You Import a Google Doc Into Figma?

Whether you’re a web developer or graphic designer, at some point you’ve probably had to work with both Google Docs and Figma. While both are great tools in their own right, there are times when it would be helpful to be able to import a Google Doc into Figma.

Unfortunately, there is no direct way to do this. However, there are a few workarounds that can get the job done.

One workaround is to export the Google Doc as an HTML file and then import that HTML file into Figma. To do this, open the Google Doc you want to export and go to File > Download As > HTML (.html). This will download the file as an HTML document. Next, open Figma and go to File > Import… > Import to Stage.

Locate the HTML file you just downloaded and select it. This will import the contents of the Google Doc into Figma as individual text blocks. You can then style these blocks as desired.

PRO TIP: While it is possible to import a Google Doc into Figma, it is not recommended. This is because there can be formatting issues that occur during the import process, which can lead to your document looking different in Figma than it does in Google Docs. Additionally, any links that were in your Google Doc will not be carried over into Figma, so you will need to manually add them back in if you want them to remain functional.

Another workaround is to use a third-party service such as HTML2Figma. This service allows you to paste the URL of a Google Doc into a form and then generates an HTML file that you can import into Figma. The downside of this approach is that it doesn’t always produce accurate results and you may have to do some manual cleanup after importing the file into Figma.

A third option is to use Figmate, a Chrome extension that allows you to import Google Docs into Figma. To use this extension, first install it from the Chrome Web Store.

Then open the Google Doc you want to import and click on the Figmate extension icon in your browser toolbar. This will open a panel on the right side of the screen with options for importing the document into Figma. Simply select the desired options and click on the “Import” button.

While there is no direct way to import a Google Doc into Figma, there are a few workarounds that can get the job done.
