Can a Wix Website Be Private?

Last updated on January 9, 2023 @ 11:44 am

Yes! You can make your Wix website private in several ways.

1. Use a Private Domain

GREAT NEWS:

Exciting update! We've collaborated with Wix to offer WBI users with a free plan for all website creation needs - Explore the details here.

If you have a private domain, you can set your site to only be accessible through that domain. This means that only people with the domain name will be able to access your site.

To do this, go to your “Site Manager” and click on the “Domains” tab. Then, click on the “Add Domain” button and enter your private domain name. Once you’ve added your domain, click on the “Settings” tab and select the “Make this site private” option.

2. Use a Password-Protected Page

Another way to make your Wix website private is to password-protect individual pages. This is a good option if you only want certain people to be able to see certain pages on your site.

To password-protect a page, go to that page in the “Editor”. Then, click on the “Settings” button (the gear icon) in the top right corner and select the “Password Protect This Page” option from the drop-down menu. Enter a password and click “OK”.

3. Use Membership Areas

If you want to give certain people access to different areas of your site, you can use Wix’s Membership Areas feature.

With this feature, you can create different members-only areas of your site and give each member their own login information. To use this feature, go to your “Site Manager”, click on the “Membership Areas” tab, and then click on the “Add Area” button.

Assuming you want to make a website for yourself and not for public consumption, then yes, a Wix website can be private. There are three primary ways to do so: using a private domain, password protecting pages, or creating membership areas.

PRO TIP: If you are looking to create a private website using Wix, be aware that there are some limitations. While you can set your site to “private” in the Wix settings, this will only prevent search engines from indexing your site. Your site will still be visible to anyone who has the direct URL. If you want to completely hide your site from public view, you will need to upgrade to a paid plan.
