How Do I Create a Permalink in WooCommerce?

Last updated on October 1, 2022 @ 3:09 pm

A permalink is a URL that is intended to remain unchanged for many years into the future, yielding link rot-resistant and user-friendly URLs. By default, WordPress uses web URLs which have question marks and lots of numbers in them; however, WordPress offers you the ability to create a custom URL structure for your permalinks and archives.

This can improve the aesthetics, usability, and forward-compatibility of your links.

There are a few different ways that you can create a permalink in WooCommerce. One way is to simply go to the product page and click on the “Permalink” tab. From there, you can enter your desired permalink in the text field.

Another way to create a permalink is to hover over the “Products” tab in your dashboard and click on “Add New.” On the “Add New Product” page, scroll down to the “Permalink” section and enter your desired permalink there.

PRO TIP: If you are planning to create a permalink in WooCommerce, be aware that there is no built-in feature to do this. However, there are a few plugins that will allow you to create permalinks for your products. Be sure to research these plugins before choosing one, as some may not be compatible with your version of WooCommerce or may not work as intended.

It’s important to note that you should only use lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens in your permalinks. Otherwise, you may run into issues with your links not working properly.

Additionally, you should avoid using words like “product” or “category” in your permalinks, as these are already used by WooCommerce.

Creating a permalink in WooCommerce is a simple process that can be accomplished in a few different ways. This can improve the aesthetics, usability, and forward-compatibility of your links.
