What Does Active Proposal Mean on UpWork?

An active proposal is one that a freelancer has submitted in response to a job posting, and the client has not yet either accepted or declined. The client may be reviewing proposals, or may have not yet logged in to view them.

When a client accepts a proposal, it becomes a contract.

As a freelancer, you can have multiple active proposals at any given time. This is because clients have 14 days to review and accept proposals after they are submitted.

If a client does not take any action on your proposal during that time frame, the proposal will automatically expire.

If you want to withdraw an active proposal, you can do so at any time before the client accepts it. Simply go to the job posting and click “Withdraw Proposal” from the drop-down menu next to your proposal.

Please note that you can only withdraw proposals that you have not already been paid for.

PRO TIP: If you’re not familiar with the term “active proposal,” it refers to a job proposal that a freelancer has submitted to a client. An active proposal is one that is currently being considered by the client. If the client accepts the proposal, the freelancer will be hired to work on the project.
