How Do I Make Customer Tax Exempt in WooCommerce?

The WooCommerce platform provides a great deal of flexibility when it comes to setting up your online store. One of the many options available to you is the ability to make customers tax exempt. This can be a useful feature if you have customers who are tax-exempt for whatever reason, or if you need to set up a special tax rate for a specific group of customers.

In order to make customers tax exempt in WooCommerce, you first need to go to the “WooCommerce” settings page and click on the “Tax” tab. From here, you will need to scroll down to the “Tax Exemptions” section and click on the “Add Exemption” button.

PRO TIP: Please be aware that there is no such thing as a “customer tax exempt” in WooCommerce. Any taxes that are applied to a purchase are determined by the shipping address of the customer and the tax settings configured in your WooCommerce store.

You will then need to enter the customer’s email address, as well as a reason for the exemption. Once you have done this, click on the “Save Changes” button and the customer will be added to the list of tax-exempt customers.

It should be noted that you can also make products tax exempt by going to the “Products” tab in the WooCommerce settings and selecting the “Tax Exempt” checkbox next to each product that you wish to be exempt from taxation.
