Can a Client Cancel a Contract on UpWork?

Last updated on September 30, 2022 @ 11:35 am

As an independent contractor, you’re in control of your work schedule. You can choose which clients to work with and which projects to take on.

However, once you’ve agreed to a contract with a client, that contract is binding. The client can’t just decide to cancel it without repercussions.

The same goes for freelancers who use UpWork. Once you’ve agreed to a contract with a client, they can’t just cancel it without repercussions. If they do, you have the right to take them to court and sue them for breach of contract.

PRO TIP: If a client cancels a contract on Upwork, the freelancer will not be paid for any work that has been completed. The client may also be responsible for any fees associated with the contract.

However, there are some circumstances where a client may be able to cancel a contract without repercussions. For example, if the client can prove that you didn’t perform the work as agreed upon in the contract, they may be able to cancel the contract and withhold payment.

If you’re ever in doubt about whether or not a client can cancel a contract, it’s best to consult with an attorney who specializes in contract law.

Can a Client Cancel a Contract on UpWork?
