How Do I Create a Sub Category in WooCommerce?

When you are running a WooCommerce store, one of the first things you need to do is set up your product categories. By default, WooCommerce will come with a few pre-defined product categories, but chances are you will need to create your own custom categories.

This can be done by going to WooCommerce > Products > Categories. From here, you can add a new category by clicking on the Add New Category button.

You will then be taken to a screen where you can enter the name and slug for your category, as well as a description. The slug is the URL friendly version of the name, and is what will be used in the URL for your category page.

For example, if your category name is “T-shirts”, the slug would be “tshirts”. Once you have entered all the required information, simply click on the Add New Category button to save your changes.

Now that you have created your first product category, you may want to create a sub-category. Sub-categories are used to further organize your products into smaller groups.

For example, if you have a clothing store, you may want to create a “T-shirts” category, and then sub-categories for “Men’s T-shirts”, “Women’s T-shirts”, and “Children’s T-shirts”. To create a sub-category, simply go to WooCommerce > Products > Categories, and then click on the Add New Category button.

You will then be taken to the same screen as before, where you can enter the name and slug for your sub-category. Underneath the name field, there is a dropdown menu labeled “Parent Category”.

This is where you will select the parent category for your sub-category. In our example above, we would select “T-shirts” from this dropdown menu. Once you have entered all the required information for your sub-category, simply click on the Add New Category button to save your changes.

Creating subcategories in WooCommerce is an easy way to keep your products organized and make it easier for customers to find what they are looking for.

PRO TIP: If you are creating a subcategory in WooCommerce, be aware that there is a limit of 100 subcategories per category. If you exceed this limit, your subcategories will not be saved.
