Do UpWork Tests Matter?

Last updated on September 30, 2022 @ 11:42 am

I’m a big fan of UpWork. I’ve used the site for years to outsource tasks and projects, and have never had a bad experience. I will say, however, that I don’t always agree with the tests that are required to be completed in order to be hired for a job.

There are two types of tests on UpWork- skills tests and aptitude tests. I think that the skills tests are generally fair and accurate. They test your knowledge of specific software or programming languages, and I think that if you’re good at those things, you should be able to pass the test.

PRO TIP: While Upwork tests can be a good indicator of a freelancer’s skills, they are not the only factor to consider when hiring. Be sure to also look at a freelancer’s portfolio and reviews before making a final decision.

However, I think that the aptitude tests are not as accurate. These are the tests that are designed to test your “general” intelligence or ability to learn new things.

I think that these tests are often flawed because they don’t take into account individual learning styles. For example, I might not do well on a test that requires me to read a long passage and then answer questions about it, but that doesn’t mean that I’m not intelligent or capable of learning new things. It just means that I learn in a different way than the test is testing for.

So, do UpWork tests matter? I think that they can be useful in some cases, but they shouldn’t be the only factor in deciding whether or not to hire someone. If you’re good at what you do and can pass the skills test, then you should be able to get the job regardless of how you did on the aptitude test.
