How Do I Cancel a Contract on UpWork?

Last updated on September 30, 2022 @ 11:55 am

If you’re not happy with the freelancer you’ve hired on UpWork, you can cancel the contract. Here’s how:

1. Go to the My Jobs tab and find the contract you want to cancel.

2. Click the More button next to the contract and select Cancel Contract from the drop-down menu.

3. In the pop-up window, select a reason for cancelling from the drop-down menu and then click Cancel Contract.

4. You’ll be taken to a confirmation page where you can review your cancellation request. If everything looks good, click Confirm Cancellation.

Once you’ve cancelled a contract, the freelancer will no longer have access to your job and you’ll no longer be charged for their services. If you have any funds remaining in your account balance, they will be refunded to you automatically.

PRO TIP: If you need to cancel a contract on Upwork for any reason, it’s important to do so in the correct way. If you don’t, you may end up inadvertently violating the terms of service, which could lead to your account being suspended or even banned.

To cancel a contract on Upwork:

1. Go to the My Jobs tab and click the contract you want to cancel
2. Click the More menu and select Request Cancellation
3. Choose a reason for cancellation from the dropdown menu and click Continue
4. Review the cancellation request and click Submit Cancellation Request

Once you’ve submitted your cancellation request, the freelancer will have 14 days to respond. If they don’t respond or agree to the cancellation, you can then contact Upwork support to have the contract canceled.
