How Do I Enable Shipping in WooCommerce?

Last updated on October 1, 2022 @ 4:02 pm

If you’re running a WooCommerce store, you’ll need to enable shipping in order to get your products to your customers. Shipping can be a bit of a tricky subject, but we’re here to help you sort it all out.

In WooCommerce, there are two main types of shipping: flat rate and free shipping. Free shipping is exactly what it sounds like – your customers don’t have to pay anything extra for shipping.

Flat rate shipping, on the other hand, is when you charge a fixed price for shipping, regardless of how many items the customer buys. You can also offer a combination of both flat rate and free shipping.

To enable shipping in WooCommerce, go to WooCommerce > Settings > Shipping. From here, you can add your shipping zones and methods.

A shipping zone is a geographical area that you ship to, and a shipping method is the type of shipping you offer (e.g. flat rate, free shipping).

Flat Rate Shipping

If you want to offer flat rate shipping, you’ll need to add a flat rate method to each of your shipping zones. To do this, go to WooCommerce > Settings > Shipping, and then select the zone you want to add a flat rate method to.

Once you’ve selected the zone, click on the “+ Add Shipping Method” button and select “Flat Rate”.

Free Shipping

If you want to offer free shipping, you can either set it up as a flat rate with a price of $0, or you can use WooCommerce’s built-in free shipping method. To do this, go to WooCommerce > Settings > Shipping, and then select the zone you want to add free shipping to.

Once you’ve selected the zone, click on the “+ Add Shipping Method” button and select “Free Shipping”. You will then be able to specify the conditions under which free shipping is available.

Conclusion

Enabling shipping in WooCommerce is easy – just go to WooCommerce > Settings > Shipping, and then add your desired methods. If you have any questions about setting up shipping in WooCommerce, feel free to ask us in the comments section below.

PRO TIP: If you are enabling shipping in WooCommerce for the first time, please take note of the following points:

1. Make sure that you have set up your shipping zones and rates correctly. Incorrectly configured shipping rates can lead to overcharging or undercharging your customers.

2. If you are using WooCommerce’s built-in shipping calculator, please ensure that your products have been properly assigned to the correct shipping classes. Shipping classes are used to group similar products together for shipping purposes, and if products are not assigned to the correct shipping class, the shipping calculator may not return accurate results.

3. Be aware that WooCommerce’s built-in shipping calculator does not take into account any special handling charges that may apply to your products (e.g. oversize or overweight charges). If you need to add special handling charges to your shipping rates, you will need to do so manually.

4. When configuring your shipping rates, please be sure to select the “Enable this Method” checkbox for each shipping method that you want to make available to your customers. Otherwise, the shipping method will not be visible on your checkout page and your customers will not be able to select it.
