What Is a Workspace in Figma?

Last updated on September 29, 2022 @ 1:18 am

When you first open Figma, you’re presented with a blank canvas – your Workspace. This is where you’ll spend most of your time in Figma, creating and collaborating on designs.

Think of your Workspace as a digital blank canvas where you can freely experiment with design ideas. It’s a place for you to explore, iterate and test out concepts. You can invite others to collaborate with you on your Workspace, so it’s a great place for team collaboration too.

Your Workspace is also where you’ll find all of your Figma files. You can create as many Workspaces as you like, and they’re a great way to keep your projects organized.

PRO TIP: Please be aware that Figma’s “workspace” feature is still in beta and may not be suitable for all projects. There have been reports of data loss and other bugs associated with this feature, so please use with caution.

To create a new Workspace:

  1. Click on the “+” icon in the left sidebar
  2. Select “Create new workspace” from the dropdown menu
  3. Enter a name for your workspace and click “Create workspace”
