What Are Illegal Characters on Fiverr?

Last updated on September 28, 2022 @ 11:37 pm

As the world’s largest freelance services marketplace, Fiverr is home to a variety of creative professionals from all over the globe. And while most freelancers on the site are upstanding citizens, there are always a few bad apples that try to game the system.

One of the ways that these bad freelancers try to game the system is by using illegal characters in their gig descriptions. By doing this, they hope to trick Fiverr’s search algorithm and get their gigs ranked higher than they deserve.

So what are these illegal characters? And how can you avoid using them in your own gig descriptions?

The most common illegal characters on Fiverr are non-printable characters, such as:

• Control characters (e.g. \t, \r, \b, etc.) • Non-ASCII characters (e.

á, é, í, ó, ú, etc.) • Unicode symbols (e. ☃, ♥, ✈, ⌘, etc.)

PRO TIP: If you are thinking about creating a gig on Fiverr, be aware that there are some strict guidelines about what is considered an “illegal character.” According to the Fiverr Terms of Service, any characters that are “considered to be illegal, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, tortuous, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libelous, invasive of another’s privacy, hateful, or racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable” are not allowed on the site. This includes symbols and images that are often associated with hate groups or racist organizations. If you post anything that is even remotely close to these types of content, your gig will be removed and you could be banned from the site entirely. So before you create a gig on Fiverr, make sure that you are familiar with the Terms of Service and only post content that is in compliance with the rules.

Using any of these characters in your gig description is against Fiverr’s Terms of Service and can get your gig removed from the site. So it’s important to avoid them if you want to stay on the right side of the law.

If you’re not sure whether a character is printable or not, a good rule of thumb is to only use characters that you can find on a standard keyboard. If you can’t find it on a keyboard, chances are it’s not printable!

Here are some examples of legal and illegal characters:

Legal: A–Z, a–z, 0–9, !@#$%^&*()_+-=[]{};:'”,.<>/?\|`~
Illegal: ☃✈♫⌘

As you can see, the only difference between legal and illegal characters is that illegal ones are not found on a standard keyboard. So if you’re ever unsure about whether a character is allowed or not, just err on the side of caution and don’t use it.

Conclusion: Non-printable characters such as control characters and Unicode symbols are not allowed on Fiverr. If you use them in your gig description, your gig may be removed from the site. To avoid this, only use characters that you can find on a standard keyboard.
