When it comes to design, there are a few programs that immediately come to mind. Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign are probably the most popular, but there are plenty of others out there that people swear by.
Figma is one of those programs.
Figma is a vector graphics editor and prototyping tool. It’s web-based, which means it can be used on any operating system, and it has a free tier that makes it accessible to anyone who wants to try it out.
It’s gained a lot of popularity in recent years for its simplicity and ease of use.
So, what happens when you want to switch from Figma to Adobe XD? Can you transfer your Figma files over?
The short answer is yes, you can transfer Figma files to Adobe XD. However, it’s not as simple as just exporting your Figma file and importing it into Adobe XD. There are a few steps you need to take in order to ensure that your file transfers over correctly.
First, you need to export your Figma file as an .AI file. To do this, go to File > Export > Export As.. and select Adobe Illustrator (.ai) from the drop-down menu. Once your file has been exported, open it in Adobe XD.
Next, you need to convert your vector graphics into XD’s native format. To do this, select all of the elements in your file and go to Edit > Copy or use the shortcut CTRL + C (Windows) / CMD + C (macOS). Then, open a new XD document and go to Edit > Paste or use the shortcut CTRL + V (Windows) / CMD + V (macOS).
You should now see all of your vector graphics from Figma in Adobe XD. The last thing you need to do is convert any text elements into XD’s native text format. To do this, select all of the text elements in your file and go to Type > Convert To Text or use the shortcut CTRL + SHIFT + T (Windows) / CMD + SHIFT + T (macOS).
And that’s it! You’ve now successfully transferred your Figma file into Adobe XD.
Remember, though, that this is only a one-way transfer. Once you’ve converted your Figma file into an Adobe XD file, you won’t be able to edit it in Figma anymore.
