Do I Need to Update WooCommerce Database?

Last updated on January 17, 2023 @ 1:38 pm

If you have a WooCommerce store, you probably know that one of the most important things you can do to keep it running smoothly is to keep your WooCommerce database up to date. But what exactly does that mean? And how do you know if you need to update your database?

Your WooCommerce database stores all of the information about your store, including products, customers, orders, etc. So, it’s important to keep it up to date so that your store can continue to function properly. There are a few different ways to update your database:

1. Automatic updates

The easiest way to keep your database up to date is to set up automatic updates. That way, you don’t have to remember to do it manually every time there’s a new version of WooCommerce available. To do this, go to your WordPress dashboard and navigate to WooCommerce > Settings. Then, click the “General” tab and scroll down to the “Software Updates” section.

From here, you can choose whether or not you want automatic updates enabled. If you do, simply select the “Enable automatic updates” option and click “Save Changes. ”

2. Manually updating via FTP

If you don’t want to enable automatic updates, or if for some reason they’re not working properly, you can update your database manually via FTP. To do this, you’ll need an FTP client like FileZilla. Once you’ve downloaded and installed FileZilla, connect to your server using your FTP credentials. Then, navigate to the /wp-content/plugins/woocommerce/ directory.

Here, you’ll see all of the files that make up WooCommerce. Download these files to your computer (make sure you save them in a safe place!) and then delete them from the server.

PRO TIP: Please be advised that updating your WooCommerce database should only be done if you are having issues with your current installation. Updating your database can cause data loss, so please backup your database prior to proceeding.

Now, go to the WooCommerce website and download the latest version of the plugin. Once it’s downloaded, unzip the file and upload it to the /wp-content/plugins/woocommerce/ directory on your server (replacing the existing files).

3. Updating via the WordPress Dashboard

If you’re using WordPress 3.7 or higher, you can also update your WooCommerce database directly from the WordPress dashboard. To do this, simply go to Dashboard > Updates and select “Update Now.” If there are any new versions of WooCommerce available, they will be listed here and you can install them with just a few clicks.
