How Do I Change a Component Name in Figma?

Last updated on September 29, 2022 @ 9:57 am

Figma is a vector graphics editor and prototyping tool – think Adobe Illustrator for the web. One of its defining features is that it is entirely browser-based, making it easy to use and accessible to anyone with an internet connection.

One of the great things about Figma is that it is very easy to change your mind about something – whether it’s the name of a component, the color of an element, or the width of a container. In this article, we’ll show you how to change a component name in Figma.

PRO TIP: If you are working in a Figma file with other people, be careful when changing component names. If someone is working on the same file, they may have the same component open in their editor. If you change the name of the component, it will also change in their editor and could cause problems.

To change the name of a component in Figma, simply click on the component in the left-hand sidebar and then click on the “Rename” button in the top bar. A popup will appear where you can enter the new name for your component. Once you’re happy with the new name, click on the “Rename” button in the popup and your component will be renamed!

That’s all there is to it! As you can see, changing a component name in Figma is a very simple process. So if you ever need to change the name of a component, don’t hesitate – just follow the steps above and you’ll be done in no time.
