What Is WooCommerce Shipping Class?

Last updated on January 18, 2023 @ 11:48 am

WooCommerce shipping class is a way to group similar products together for shipping purposes. By creating shipping classes and assigning products to those classes, you can control how those products are shipped and what options are available to the customer at checkout.

For example, you could create a shipping class for large items and another shipping class for small items. Products in the large items shipping class would then be shipped differently than products in the small items shipping class.

You can also use WooCommerce shipping classes to offer different shipping rates to different products. For example, you could charge a higher shipping rate for products in the large items shipping class and a lower shipping rate for products in the small items shipping class. This can be useful if you have products that are difficult or expensive to ship.

To create a WooCommerce shipping class, go to WooCommerce > Settings > Shipping > Shipping Classes. From here, you can add a new shipping class by clicking the Add Shipping Class button. Give your shipping class a name and description, then click the Save button.

Once you’ve created your shipping class, you can assign products to it by editing those products and selecting the shipping class from the Shipping Class drop-down menu. You can also bulk edit products to assign them to a shipping class using the Bulk Edit tool.

PRO TIP: WooCommerce shipping classes can be used to group similar products together for shipping purposes. This can be useful if you have products that require different shipping options or rates. However, it is important to note that WooCommerce shipping classes are not the same as product categories. Products can only be assigned to one shipping class, and shipping classes cannot be nested.
