How Do I Merge Two Vectors in Figma?

There are a few different ways that you can merge two vectors in Figma. Here, we will tackle three of them.

In this example, we have two separate shape vectors, a circle, and a triangle, that we would like to merge. You can check these from the layers section on the left.

The first way is to simply select both of the vectors that you want to merge and press the ‘Union Selection’ option in the top-middle toolbar.

This will combine the two vectors into a single vector path.

NOTE: The Union Selection tool usually takes the color of the vector in front and applies it to the merged result.

Another way to merge two vectors is to select the ‘Create Component’ option, still in the top toolbar.

This will combine the selected vectors into one component.

PRO TIP: If you are working with two vectors in Figma, be sure to check that they are aligned correctly before merging them. If they are not aligned correctly, the merged vector may not look as expected.

The last way to merge two vectors is to select both of the vectors that you want to merge, right-click on them, then select ‘Group Selection’ from the options.

This will group the two vectors together into one element.

No matter which method you use, merging two vectors will result in a single vector path. This can be useful if you want to create a more complex shape or if you want to simplify a design.
