How Do I Add Variation Images in WooCommerce?

Last updated on January 18, 2023 @ 5:16 pm

When you add products to your WooCommerce store, you can upload multiple images for each product. These additional images are called variation images.

By default, WooCommerce will only display the main image for a product on the product page. However, you can enable variation images and have them displayed next to the main image.

There are two ways to add variation images in WooCommerce. The first way is to use the built-in variation image feature. The second way is to use a plugin.

Built-In Variation Images

WooCommerce includes a built-in variation image feature. To use this feature, you need to be using the WordPress Block Editor (also known as Gutenberg).

PRO TIP: If you are not familiar with WooCommerce, we recommend that you do not attempt to add variation images. This can result in errors and cause your site to malfunction.

To add variation images using the built-in feature:

  1. Edit the product that you want to add variation images to.
  2. Click on the “Images” tab in the Product Data section.
  3. Click on the “Add product gallery images” button.
  4. Upload or select the images that you want to use as variation images.
  5. Click on the “Select” button.

Variation Images Plugin

  1. If you’re not using the WordPress Block Editor, or if you want more control over how your variation images are displayed, then you can use a plugin. We recommend using the WooCommerce Variation Images plugin.
  2. Install and activate the WooCommerce Variation Images plugin.
  3. Configure the plugin settings. If you want, you can leave the default settings as they are.
  4. Add your variation images. You can add as many variation images as you want for each product.

Conclusion

You can add variation images in WooCommerce using either the built-in feature or a plugin. If you’re using the WordPress Block Editor, then you can use the built-in feature. Otherwise, we recommend using a plugin like WooCommerce Variation Images.
