How Do I Set Up Shipping by Weight in WooCommerce?

If you have a WooCommerce store, you may want to offer shipping by weight. This is a great way to make sure that your customers are charged the correct amount for shipping, and it can be a good option if you have products of different sizes.

There are a few different ways that you can set up shipping by weight in WooCommerce. One way is to use the built-in shipping calculator. This is a great option if you want to offer shipping to multiple locations, or if you have products of different weights.

To use the shipping calculator, first, go to WooCommerce > Settings. Then, click on the Shipping tab and select Shipping Zones. Here, you’ll see a list of all the shipping zones that are currently set up for your store.

Find the zone that you want to add weight-based shipping to and click Edit. Next, scroll down to the Shipping Methods section and click Add Shipping Method.

From the dropdown menu, select Weight Based Shipping.

Now, you’ll need to enter some information about the weight-based shipping method that you’re adding. In the Method Title field, enter a name for the method. This is what will be shown to customers at checkout.

PRO TIP: If you are using WooCommerce to set up shipping for your online store, be aware that there is a bug that can cause shipping charges to be calculated incorrectly when using the ‘by weight’ shipping method. This can result in overcharging or undercharging customers for shipping, so it is important to test your shipping charges thoroughly before going live with this method.

In the Calculation Type field, you’ll need to choose how you want the shipping cost to be calculated. There are three options:

  • per order: The shipping cost will be calculated based on the total weight of all items in the order.
  • per item: The shipping cost will be calculated based on the weight of each individual item.
  • by line item: The shipping cost will be calculated based on the weight of each line item in the order.

You can also choose whether or not you want to offer free shipping. To do this, simply check the Free Shipping checkbox.

If you want to offer flat rate shipping, enter the amount that you want to charge in the Flat Rate field. This is the amount that will be charged for shipping regardless of how many items are in an order.

When you’re finished, click Save Changes.

Conclusion:

Now that you know how to set up WooCommerce Shipping by Weight, try it out on your own store! If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment below.
