Do You Get Your Own URL With Shopify?

Last updated on October 1, 2022 @ 6:09 pm

When you set up a Shopify store, you have the option to use your own domain name (like www.mystore.com) or a Shopify-provided domain name (like www.myShopify.com).

If you choose to use your own domain name, you’ll need to set up DNS records with your domain registrar to point your domain name to the Shopify servers. This process is called Domain Name System (DNS) configuration.

If you use a Shopify-provided domain name, we’ll automatically set up the DNS records for you. All you need to do is buy your domain name through Shopify, and we’ll take care of the rest.

PRO TIP: If you are considering using Shopify to create an online store, be aware that you will not be able to create a custom URL for your store. Instead, your store’s URL will be based on the name you choose for your store. For example, if you choose the name “My Store” for your Shopify store, your store’s URL will be “mystore.shopify.com”. While this is not necessarily a bad thing, it is something to be aware of before creating your Shopify store.

To summarize, if you want to use your own domain name with Shopify, you’ll need to set up DNS records with your domain registrar. If you use a Shopify-provided domain name, we’ll take care of the DNS configuration for you.
