Where Are the DNS Records in Squarespace?

Last updated on October 1, 2022 @ 4:00 am

As a website builder, Squarespace provides an easy way to create a website without having to learn coding. However, one thing that can be confusing for users is where to find the DNS records for their website.

DNS, or Domain Name System, is what allows users to connect to your website using a domain name (such as www.example.com) instead of an IP address. DNS records are what tell your domain name where to point to when someone tries to access it.

If you’re using Squarespace to build your website, you don’t need to worry about setting up DNS records yourself – Squarespace will automatically handle that for you. However, there may be times when you need to access your DNS records, such as when you’re setting up email forwarding or changing your site’s IP address.

To find your DNS records in Squarespace, log in to your account and go to the ‘Domains’ tab. Click on the domain name that you want to view the DNS records for. On the next page, scroll down to the ‘DNS Settings’ section and click on the ‘Advanced’ link.

This will bring up a page with all of the different types of DNS records for your domain. The most common record types are A, AAAA, CNAME, and MX records. Each record has a specific purpose – for example, A records are used to map a domain name to an IP address, while CNAME records are used to create aliases (such as www.com and example.com).

If you need to make changes to any of your DNS records, you can do so by clicking on the ‘Edit’ button next to the relevant record. Be sure to save any changes that you make before exiting out of the page.

PRO TIP: If you are planning to transfer your Squarespace website to another host, be aware that Squarespace does not provide DNS records. This means that you will need to manually update your DNS settings at your new host. Failure to do so will result in your website being inaccessible.

In conclusion, the DNS records for a Squarespace website can be found in the ‘Domains’ tab under ‘DNS Settings’.
