How do I add a firewall to DigitalOcean?

Last updated on September 25, 2022 @ 2:15 pm

Adding a firewall to DigitalOcean is simple. First, create a firewall profile for the Droplet you want to protect. Then, add the Droplet to the profile. To do this, open the FirewallManager interface in the DigitalOcean control panel, and select the Droplet from the list of Droplets. In the Profile dropdown, select the profile you created earlier. Under Actions, select Add Droplet.

PRO TIP: Adding a firewall to your DigitalOcean account is a great way to help keep your droplet(s) secure. However, it is important to note that firewalls can also block legitimate traffic if not configured properly. As such, it is important to carefully consider your firewall rules before implementing them. If you are unsure about how to configure your firewall, we recommend reaching out to a qualified system administrator for assistance.

In the Add Droplet dialog, select the FirewallProfile you created earlier, and click Add. The Droplet will be added to the profile, and the firewall will be enabled. To test the firewall, open the DigitalOcean control panel, select the Droplet from the list of Droplets, and select Firewall from the menu. In the Firewall tab, select the profile you created earlier, and click Test. The Droplet will be blocked from accessing the internet, and you will see a message indicating that the Firewall is enabled.
