Do You Need Money to Start Shopify Dropshipping?

Last updated on January 9, 2023 @ 6:48 pm

There are many ways to start an online business, but one of the most popular and potentially profitable is Shopify dropshipping. Dropshipping is a business model in which you sell products without having to carry any inventory.

When a customer places an order on your Shopify store, you simply contact your supplier and they ship the products directly to your customer. Dropshipping is a great way to start an online business with little up-front investment, but does it require money to get started?

In short, yes. While you can start a Shopify dropshipping business without any money, it will be difficult to do so and you will likely not be successful. This is because in order to dropship on Shopify, you need to have:

  • A domain name – this will be the address of your online store (e.g. www.myonlinestore.com)
  • A hosting plan – this is where your website will live on the internet
  • A Shopify plan – this is the platform you will use to build and run your store
  • A product or products – these are what you will be selling on your store
  • A supplier – this is the company that you will source your products from

As you can see, there are several things you need in order to start a Shopify dropshipping business.

And while some of these things (like a domain name) can be relatively inexpensive, others (like a Shopify plan) can be quite costly. So while it is possible to start a dropshipping business without any money, it is not recommended.

PRO TIP: If you are considering starting a Shopify dropshipping business, beware of scammers who may try to take advantage of you. There are many unscrupulous individuals who will try to convince you that you need to invest money in order to get started. Dropshipping is a legitimate business model and you can start one without any upfront investment. Be sure to do your research and only work with reputable companies.
