How Do I Add Sales Tax to Squarespace?

Last updated on October 1, 2022 @ 4:39 am

As a business owner, you are responsible for collecting and remitting sales tax to the appropriate tax authorities. Sales tax is typically calculated as a percentage of the sale price, and it varies by jurisdiction.

You may need to collect and remit sales tax in multiple jurisdictions if you sell products or services in multiple states or countries.

If you’re using Squarespace Commerce to run your online store, you can use our built-in sales tax features to automatically calculate and collect sales tax from your customers. In this article, we’ll cover how to add sales tax to your Squarespace store.

1. Go to Settings.
From the Home Menu, click Settings.

2. Click Billing & Shipping.
Under Business, click Billing & Shipping. If you don’t see this option, it means that you’re not using Squarespace Commerce.

3. Click “+ Add Sales Tax”.

4. Select your jurisdiction. Start typing the name of the jurisdiction where you need to collect and remit sales tax, then select it from the list that appears.

If you don’t see your jurisdiction listed, you can search for it on the Streamlined Sales Tax website.

5. Enter your registration number. This is also known as a resale certificate number, permit number, or seller’s license number. You can usually find this on your state’s Department of Revenue website.

6. Enter the appropriate tax rate. The tax rate is the percentage of the sale price that will be charged as sales tax. This varies by jurisdiction, so be sure to check with your state’s Department of Revenue for the correct rate.

7. Click “Save”. Your new sales tax will be added to your list of jurisdictions.

Now that you know how to add sales tax to your Squarespace store, you can start collecting and remitting taxes to the appropriate authorities. This will help you avoid penalties and interest charges for failing to comply with sales tax laws.

PRO TIP: Sales tax should not be added to Squarespace. This can result in overcharging your customers and can cause problems with your taxes.
