Why Is My Wix Site Being Blocked?

Last updated on January 2, 2023 @ 7:38 pm

If you’re trying to access your Wix site and you see a message saying that the site is blocked, it’s likely because your site is not secure. When you create a Wix site, we automatically generate an SSL certificate for you.

However, in order for the SSL certificate to work, you need to make sure that your site is pointing to the correct domain name. If your domain is not pointing to your Wix site, the SSL certificate will not work and your site will be blocked.

GREAT NEWS:

Exciting update! We've collaborated with Wix to offer WBI users with a free plan for all website creation needs - Explore the details here.

PRO TIP: If you are experiencing issues with your Wix website being blocked, it is likely due to one of the following reasons:

– Your site is breaching Wix’s Terms of Use.
– Your site is using excessive bandwidth.
– Your site is causing a negative impact on other Wix users.

If your site is being blocked by Wix, we recommend that you take a look at our Terms of Use and ensure that your site is in compliance. If you believe that your site is not in breach of our Terms of Use, please contact our support team for further assistance.

There are a few things you can do to fix this:

  • First, make sure that your domain is pointing to your Wix site. You can do this by going to the Domain tab in your Wix account and checking the Domain Settings. If your domain is not pointing to your Wix site, you’ll need to update the A record and/or CNAME. For more information on how to do this, please see this support article. Once you’ve updated the DNS settings, it can take up to 48 hours for the changes to propagate.
  • If your domain is pointing to your Wix site but you’re still seeing a message saying that the site is blocked, it’s likely because the SSL certificate is not yet active. When you first create a Wix site, we automatically generate an SSL certificate for you. However, it can take up to 24 hours for the certificate to become active. Once the SSL certificate is active, your site will no longer be blocked.
  • If you’re using a custom domain that you purchased from another registrar (like GoDaddy, 1&1, or Hover), you’ll need to purchase an SSL certificate from them in order for your site to be secure.com/en/article/adding-an-ssl-certificate-from-another-registrar”>this support article. Once you’ve purchased an SSL certificate from your registrar and added it to your Wix account, your site will no longer be blocked.

Conclusion:

The main reason why a Wix website may become blocked is due to it not being secure – meaning it does not have an SSL certificate. There are three ways to fix this issue: by ensuring the domain name is correctly pointing towards the Wix website; by waiting for the automatically generated SSL certificate to become active; or by purchasing an SSL certificate from another registrar if using a custom domain name.
