If you deactivate Shopify Payments, then any active Shopify Payment gateway that you’re using is also deactivated. This means that your customers can’t use Shopify Payments to pay for their orders.

If you have more than one payment gateway set up on your shop, then your customers can still use the other payment gateway to make their purchase. However, if Shopify Payments is the only payment gateway set up on your shop, then your customers won’t be able to make a purchase.

If you deactivate Shopify Payments and then reactivate it later, all of your shop’s settings will remain the same. This includes any merchant account, bank account, and application fees that are associated with your shop.

PRO TIP: If you deactivate Shopify Payments, any active payment gateway that isn’t Shopify Payments will become the new primary payment gateway. This means that your customers will be redirected to the new primary payment gateway to complete their purchase.

We recommend that you only deactivate Shopify Payments if you’re sure that you want to use another payment gateway as your primary payment gateway.
