There are two parts to adding a custom domain to Squarespace: registering the domain with a domain provider and then connecting it to your Squarespace site. You can register a new domain or transfer an existing one to Squarespace. Once your domain is registered, you can connect it to your site and choose how you want it displayed.

DNS overview
Domain Name System (DNS) converts human-friendly domain names (like www.example.com) into numerical IP addresses that computers use to connect to each other (like 192.0.2.1). When someone types a Squarespace Domain or Domain Alias into their browser, we use DNS records to direct them to the content they’re looking for.
