How Do I Add a Website Icon to Wix?

Last updated on October 1, 2022 @ 9:58 am

iOS devices can be a little fickle when it comes to website icons. If you’ve ever added a website shortcut to your homescreen only to find that the icon is some weird default placeholder image, you know what I’m talking about. But there’s an easy way to ensure that your Wix website always displays correctly on iOS by adding a special Apple touch icon.

When an iOS device visits a website, it checks for certain files that tell the device what icon to display on the homescreen. If no icon is found, the device will use a default image. To avoid this, you need to add an Apple touch icon to your Wix site.

GREAT NEWS:

Exciting update! We've collaborated with Wix to offer WBI users with a free plan for all website creation needs - Explore the details here.

The process is actually pretty simple. Just follow these steps:

1. Go to your Wix Editor and click on the “Add” button in the left sidebar. 2. Select “HTML Code” from the list of options.

3. A new box will appear on your page. In this box, paste the following code: 4. Save and publish your site.

That’s it! Now when someone visits your site on their iOS device, they’ll see a nice little icon instead of that ugly default one.

There are a few things to keep in mind with this method. First, make sure that you replace “YOUR-IMAGE-URL” with the actual URL of your image file.

Second, the image that you use for your icon should be square and at least 152×152 pixels. And finally, this method won’t work if you’re using Wix’s free plan – you’ll need to be on one of their premium plans in order for it to work correctly.

PRO TIP: If you are planning to add a website icon to your Wix website, be aware that this may result in your site being blocked by some web browsers. This is because some browsers consider website icons to be a security risk.
