How Do I Add a Search in Squarespace?

Last updated on December 28, 2022 @ 7:18 pm

There are two ways to add a search bar to your Squarespace website. The first way is to use the native search functionality that is built into Squarespace. The second way is to use a third-party search service, such as Google Custom Search.

Native Search

Squarespace’s native search functionality is powered by Algolia, a powerful search engine that can index all of your website’s content and make it searchable.

To add a search bar to your website using native search:

PRO TIP: Before beginning any work on your Squarespace website, we strongly recommend backing up your site. For instructions on how to do this, please see our guide How to Back Up Your Squarespace Site.

If you’re not comfortable working with code, we recommend contacting a Squarespace Expert.

With that said, let’s get started!

  1. In the Home Menu, click Pages.
  2. Click the + icon next to Main Navigation and select Search from the drop-down menu.
  3. Enter a Title for your search page and click Done.
  4. Click Save.

Google Custom Search

Google Custom Search is a free search service that you can use to power the search on your website. To add a Google Custom Search bar to your website:

  1. If you haven’t already, create a Google Custom Search Engine.
  2. In the Home Menu, click Settings, then click Advanced.
  3. Scroll down to the Google custom search engine section and enter your Google Custom Search Engine ID.

Conclusion, there are two ways that you can add a search bar onto your Squarespace website. You can either use Squarespace’s native search functionality or you can use googles custom search bar. Each has its own set of benefits so it really just depends on what you’re looking for in a search bar.
