Parallax is an effect where the background image of a section is moved at a different speed than the foreground content while scrolling. This can create a more engaging experience for your visitors as they scroll down your page.
Squarespace offers two types of parallax scrolling: Fade and Shift. Fade parallax is available on all templates, while Shift parallax is available on some templates, as noted in our Template Comparison Chart.
To add parallax scrolling to a section:
- In the Home Menu, click Pages.
- Click the + icon, then click Add Page.
- In the Page Header section, select Parallax from the drop-down menu.
Once you’ve added a page with parallax scrolling, you can customize the look and behavior of your parallax effect:
- Fade: This type of parallax slowly fades out the background image as you scroll down.
- Shift: This type of parallax keeps the background image in place while the foreground content scrolls on top of it.
You can also change the direction of your parallax effect by clicking the section and selecting Parallax Direction from the Section Header drop-down menu.
