How Do I Turn Off Test Mode Payments on Shopify?

Last updated on January 13, 2023 @ 3:28 am

If you’re running a Shopify store in test mode, you may be wondering how to turn off test mode payments. By default, Shopify will only allow you to process orders using test payment methods, such as the Bogus Gateway. This is to prevent accidental charges from being made to real credit cards.

In order to start accepting real payments, you’ll need to first disable test mode in your Shopify admin.

Once test mode is disabled, you’ll be able to process orders using any of the available payment methods that are set up in your shop.

Here’s how to disable test mode and start processing real payments in your Shopify store:

  1. Log in to your Shopify admin panel.

  2. Click Settings from the left-hand sidebar.

  3. Click Checkout.

  4. Under Payment providers, select “Manage providers”.

  5. Click on the “Edit” link next to the payment gateway that you want to use for live transactions.

  6. PRO TIP: Test mode payments on Shopify allow you to process orders without actually taking payment. This is useful when you’re setting up your store, but can be accidentally left on. If you’re not careful, you may end up processing orders without realizing that you’re not actually taking payment. Be sure to turn off test mode payments when you’re done setting up your store!
  7. Under “Connection options”, select “Use this gateway for live transactions”.

  8. Click “Save changes”.

Your chosen payment gateway is now set up for live transactions.

To learn more about setting up different payment gateways, see Shopify’s documentation on Payment gateways.

Test mode is now disabled and you can accept live payments in your Shopify store.
