How Do I Redirect a Domain to Shopify?

There are a few ways to redirect a domain to Shopify. You can use a web hosting service, like WordPress or Wix, to create a 301 redirect.

Or, you can edit your DNS settings and create what’s called a CNAME record. Finally, if you’re using Shopify’s default domains, you can set up a redirect from your .myShopify.com domain to your .com domain.

Here’s how to set up a 301 redirect using WordPress:

1. Log in to your WordPress account and go to your Dashboard. 2. Click on “Settings” and then “General.”

3. In the “General Settings” section, find the “Site Address (URL)” field and enter your new Shopify URL in the box next to it. 4. Scroll down and click on the “Save Changes” button.

Now, when someone visits your old WordPress URL, they’ll be automatically redirected to your new Shopify store.

PRO TIP: If you are not careful, redirecting a domain to Shopify can result in losing your website’s search engine ranking. This is because search engines index websites based on their domain name, and when you change your domain name, your website will be treated as a new website. Therefore, it is important to take precautions to preserve your website’s search engine ranking when redirecting a domain to Shopify.

You can also set up a CNAME record if you’re using a custom domain with Shopify. A CNAME record is a type of DNS setting that tells visitors that they should go to one URL when they type in another URL. For example, you could set up a CNAME record so that visitors who go to www.example.com are actually taken to www.example-shopify-store.com.

To set up a CNAME record, you’ll need to log in to your DNS provider (this is where you bought your domain name) and add a new CNAME record. The details will vary depending on your DNS provider, but you’ll need to enter two things:
1) The name of your subdomain (www or anything else you want people to type before your domain name), and
2) The URL of your Shopify store (which will end in .com).

Once you’ve saved your changes, it can take up to 24 hours for the changes to take effect. After that, anyone who visits www.com will be taken to www-example-shopify-store-com automatically.

If you’re using one of Shopify’s default domains (.com), you can set up a redirect from that domain to your .com domain name. To do this, log in to your Shopify admin and go to Online Store > Domains > Add Domain > Use Domain > Enter Your Domain Name > Connect Existing Domain > I Already Own This Domain > Enter Your Domain Name > Redirect To Primary Domain > Save Changes:

Now, when someone visits example-shopify-store-com they’ll be taken automatically to www-example-shopify-store-com instead
