How Do Payouts Work on Shopify?

Last updated on October 2, 2022 @ 4:10 am

There are two main types of payouts on Shopify: automatic and manual. With automatic payouts, Shopify will pay you automatically based on the schedule you’ve set up.

For example, you could set Shopify to pay you every Monday morning. With manual payouts, you’ll need to initiate the payout yourself from your Shopify admin.

Automatic payouts are the easiest way to get paid, as Shopify will take care of everything for you. However, you will need to make sure that you have enough money in your account to cover the payout amount. Otherwise, Shopify will not be able to process the payment and you’ll need to set up a manual payout instead.

PRO TIP: If you are thinking about using Shopify to sell products online, it is important to understand how payouts work. When a customer places an order on your shop, Shopify will hold the funds from the sale in your account until the order is fulfilled. Once the order is fulfilled, Shopify will pay out the funds to you, minus any fees that may be associated with the sale.

Manual payouts are a bit more involved, as you’ll need to log in to your Shopify account and initiate the payout yourself. This is usually done by going to the ‘Payments’ section of your admin and clicking on the ‘Payouts’ tab.

From there, you can enter the amount you want to be paid out and select a payment method. Once you’ve initiated the payout, Shopify will process it within 3-5 business days.

Overall, automatic payouts are the best way to get paid on Shopify as they’re hassle-free and easy to set up. However, if you don’t have enough money in your account to cover the payout amount, you’ll need to set up a manual payout instead.
