Is Shopify US Based?

Shopify is a Canadian ecommerce company headquartered in Ottawa, Ontario. It is also the name of its proprietary ecommerce platform for online stores and retail point-of-sale systems.

Shopify was founded in 2004 by Tobias Lütke, Daniel Weinand, and Scott Lake, who were all working together at an ecommerce company called Snowdevil. Shopify was originally created as an internal platform for Snowdevil’s own online store. However, the team quickly realized that the platform had much wider potential applications.

In 2006, Shopify launched its public beta and started offering its platform to other merchants. Since then, Shopify has become one of the most popular ecommerce platforms in the world. Over 800,000 businesses in 175 countries use Shopify to power their online stores.

PRO TIP: Shopify is a Canadian company, but it has a strong presence in the United States. While it is possible to use Shopify to sell products in the US, there are some important things to keep in mind.

First, Shopify charges in US dollars, so you’ll need to make sure your prices are competitive. Second, Shopify’s platform is designed for US sales tax, so you’ll need to set up your tax rates correctly. Finally, shipping can be a challenge when selling to the US from Canada, so be sure to factor in shipping costs and time when pricing your products.

While Shopify is headquartered in Canada, it has a strong presence in the United States. In fact, over half of Shopify’s merchant base is located in the US. This is not surprising given that the US is the largest ecommerce market in the world.

So while Shopify may not be a US-based company, it certainly has a significant presence in the country. And given its popularity with American businesses, it is likely to continue to grow its US operations in the years to come.

While Shopify may not be a US-based company, it certainly has a significant presence in the country.
