What Is Collection Handle in Shopify?

Last updated on October 2, 2022 @ 4:45 am

Collection handles in Shopify are the unique identifiers for your product collections. They’re used to build your shop’s URL, and they help you organize and manage your collections.

Your collection handle is the part of your collection’s URL that comes after your shop’s domain name. For example, if your shop’s domain name is example.myShopify.com and your collection handle is shirts, then your collection’s URL would be example.com/shirts.

PRO TIP: Collection handles are used to identify which collection a customer is viewing on your storefront. By default, Shopify will generate a handle based on the collection’s title. For example, if your collection is titled “Summer Collection”, Shopify will generate the handle “summer-collection”.

You can edit a collection’s handle to make it more readable, or to match the handle of an existing page on your site. For example, you might want to use the handle “summer” for your Summer Collection page.

If you change a collection’s handle, any links that use the old handle will no longer work. Make sure to update any links that point to your collections, such as links in your menus or in other pages on your site.

Collection handles are generated automatically when you create a new collection in Shopify. You can edit your collection handle at any time from the Collections page in your Shopify admin:

1. From your Shopify admin, go to Products > Collections. 2. Click the name of the collection that you want to edit. 3.

In the Collection details section, click Edit website SEO. 4. In the Handle field, enter a new handle for your collection, and then click Save. Your collection handle can contain letters, numbers, and hyphens (-). It can’t contain spaces or any other characters.
