Can UI designer become UX designer?

Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 10:32 pm

There is no simple answer to this question as it depends on the individual and their experience within the design industry. However, in general, yes, an UI designer can become a UX designer.

PRO TIP: There is no guarantee that a UI designer will be able to successfully transition into a UX designer role. While both roles require design skills, they have different focus areas. UI designers are typically more concerned with the look and feel of a product, while UX designers are focused on the user experience. As such, a successful transition into a UX designer role may require additional training and/or experience.

If an individual has a strong understanding of how users interact with digital products, then they can transition into the UX design field. Additionally, experience in Sketch or Adobe Photoshop can be beneficial as both programs have a strong user interface design component.

Ultimately, the most important factor for whether or not a designer can transition into the UX design field is their passion for the field and their willingness to learn new skills. If both of these factors are present, then there is no limit to what an individual can achieve.
