Live Paint is a feature in Adobe Illustrator that allows you to paint on objects in your document using the drawing tools. Live Paint is enabled by default in Illustrator CS6 and later versions, but you can disable it if you want. To enable Live Paint, follow these steps:
- From the Illustrator toolbar, select the Paintbrush tool.
- Click and hold down the left mouse button on the object you want to paint, and then drag the object to a new location on the document.
- Release the left mouse button and use the drawing tools to paint your design.
- When you’re finished painting, release the mouse button and the object will return to its original location.
- If you want to undo your last action, select the Undo tool and click on the object.
- If you want to redo your last action, select the Redo tool and click on the object.
- If you want to stop painting, select the Stop tool.
- If you want to start painting over a previous action, select the Start tool and click on the object.
- If you want to clear the Live Paint palette, select the Clear Palette tool.
- If you want to save your Live Paint design, select the Save Palette As tool.
- If you want to discard your Live Paint design, select the Discard tool.
- When you’re finished using Live Paint, select the Exit tool to leave Illustrator.

If you want to disable Live Paint in the future, follow these steps:
- Click on the Live Paint button in the Illustrator toolbar.
- If the Disable Live Paint check box is checked, uncheck it and click on the OK button.
- If the Disable Live Paint check box is not checked, check it and click on the OK button.
- If you want to enable Live Paint for all objects in the document, select the Enable Live Paint check box and click on the OK button.
- If you want to enable Live Paint for only certain types of objects, select the Enable Live Paint for Selected Objects check box and click on the OK button.
- If you want to disable Live Paint for all objects in the document, select the Disable Live Paint check box and click on the OK button.
- If you want to share your Live Paint design, select the Share Palette As tool.
PRO TIP: This is a potentially harmful question. Enabling Live Paint in Illustrator can cause your computer to crash, or worse, delete your entire project.
