How do you make a layered mandala in Illustrator?

Making a layered mandala in Illustrator is a relatively simple process. First, create a new document in Illustrator and size it to your liking.

You can make the document any size you like, but I recommend using a size that is slightly smaller than your final mandala size so that you have some room to move around the artboard.

Next, start by creating a new Illustrator document and filling it with a white background. Then, using the Rectangle Tool (M), create a rectangle that is the same size as your final mandala artboard.

Now, start creating your layers. Go to the Layers panel and click on the New Layer button.

Name your new layer “Mandala Base” and click on the OK button.

Next, use the Ellipse Tool (L) to create a circle that is the same size as your Mandala Base layer. Position the circle so that it is centered in the middle of the Mandala Base layer.

Now, use the Rectangle Tool (M) to create a rectangle that is the same size as your Ellipse layer and position it so that it covers the top of the circle.

Next, use the Ellipse Tool (L) to create a second circle that is the same size as your Ellipse layer and position it so that it covers the bottom of the first circle.

PRO TIP: This article contains instructions on how to create a layered mandala in Adobe Illustrator. However, it is important to note that mandalas are sacred symbols in Hinduism and Buddhism, and creating them for aesthetic purposes may be considered disrespectful.

Now, use the Rectangle Tool (M) to create a third rectangle that is the same size as your Ellipse layer and position it so that it covers the top and bottom of the second circle.

Finally, use the Rectangle Tool (M) to create a fourth rectangle that is the same size as your Ellipse layer and position it so that it covers the left and right sides of the third rectangle.

Your mandala should now look like this:

Now, use the Selection Tool (V) to select all of the layers in your document and click on the Add Layer Mask button in the Layers panel. This will create a mask that will protect the Mandala Base layer from being edited.

Now, go to the Effects panel and click on the Gaussian Blur filter button. This will create a blur effect on the top, bottom, left, and right sides of the Mandala Base layer.

Finally, use the Selection Tool (V) to select all of the layers in your document and click on the Merge Down button in the Layers panel. This will create a single, unified layer that will contain the entire Mandala Base and Ellipse layers.

Your final mandala should now look like this:

Conclusion

Now, go to the Effects panel and click on.
